Plein air 'round the corner

I had an hour yesterday to do a quick oil sketch on a deserted and overgrown contruction site down the block.

I'm working on this awesome project. The story for this children's book was written by the greatTjibbe Veldkamp. It is incredibly funny, and I'm a blast working on the illustrations. Now this is really a book that I'd love to see published overseas. I get asked a lot about my books in the USA. The thing is...they are not published in the USA. So if any of you can get me in touch with a good publisher in the USA, who'd be interested in an incredibly funny childrens book, please send me a message.

R-Jam portrait

For the R-Jam project some artists from Rotterdam were asked to create a portrait of a dutch jazz musician. I was one of the artisyts, and I was asked to do a portrait of David de Groot.  Yesterday the portraits were revealed. They are part of a permanent exhibition at the Oude Binnenweg in Rotterdam.

This saturday my new children’s book, written by Mark Haayema will be presented at ‘Jeugdtheater de Krakeling’ in Amsterdam. From then on, the book ‘Joep!’ will be available in stores. The book comes with a CD with a radio play of the book.

De prins en de puinhoop

On January 28th Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has announced she will resign and her son Prince Willem Alexander will become king on april 30th of this year. Some time ago I made a childrens book with author Tjibbe Veldkamp about the abdication. In the book the 'true story' is told about the queen and her son. It has been a while since I last did a caricature. I had lots of fun exaggerating features once again!

Gouache

I wanted to experiment with other kinds of watercolor paper, and create a composition based on photo reference.  I used a japanese brush, and I like the randomness of the shapes of its brushstrokes.
