Book cover sketches

Two different approaches for a book cover. I had a lot of fun exploring these possibilities although eventually the whole project was dismissed...

Mijn naam is Haas

These are some sketches and illustrations that I have been working on lately. The project is called: Mijn naam is Haas" and it will consist of children's books and educational computer games. Trailers and full story can be found hereMy name is Haas is a charming multimedia concept for young children (age 3-7 years). Picture books introduce characters like Haas, a young Hare, and Sofie, a little duck, and their world. Within the educational games children experience adventures together with the characters. These games are available on CD-ROM as well as online (in the near future). More info at mijnnaamishaas.nl
The book 'Nooit meer nat!' and the game 'Lekkere lucht' just came out, and are in store now!
'Groen Genoeg and 'Vreemde vogels' will both be published later...

The bird

Because of its size (1.20 cm x 60 cm , oils) I was unable to take really good pictures of this painting. (I have to learn how to do that properly some day) , so the subleties in the colors and skin tones are a bit lost here. However the main idea of what the painting is about still comes across.

plein air 07-06-2009
I had a lot of fun doing this outdoor painting (oils: 12' x 10'). The colors on my palette were: Ultramarine, Cerulean blue, Yellow ochre, Burnt sienna and Burnt Umber. I accented the path and the yellow grass to lead the eye to the focal point: the tree.
