Rejected...

This illustration is about someone coaching an unemployed person. He's is rowing in his paper resume boat, and the coach is giving him directions.
Unfortunately the illustration was rejected in the end. On second thought they found the illustration too negative.
Too bad, although I personally am very glad I got to finish the sketch. I learned some more about textures and digital illustration...

Life drawing

Studies studies studies. I really enjoy studying life models. With everey drawing I learn more about the human figure, shapes, anatomy, and translating that into a drawing...
My good friend Arne set up a drawing class, and I am really grateful that I can join in. Check out his drawings here

penciltests

My first steps in animation.
I finally puchased animation software, so I can experiment and find out what this medium is about. It is really fascinating studying movement, timing, squash and stretch.
Having good fundamentals in understanding shapes, 3 dimensionality and basiscs of anatomy is essential to make a character move convincingly.

It was my job to design the Harry character, and to paint all of the Backgrounds. I had a lot of fun doing this job, and also I learned a lot about animation, since it was my first animation project. The storyboard was done by the great Daan Jippes and the movie was directed by Hans Buying.

As you can see this is the evolution of the Harry character. I had to navigate between likeness and smurfness...

More sketchbook drawings

This is the first time I am experimenting with brush and ink. Most of my illustrations are painted, so I never got to explore the possibilities of brush and ink. I love the medium and it gives me a lot of new ideas. The ink illustrations above are some exercises to get to know the medium.
