Concept sketches

I was invited to participate in this project.
These are two concept sketches of which I have to choose one that will be published in the book. The first sketch belongs to the song: "Home" by Michel Petrucciani
The second one is an illustration for "I wish" by Stevie Wonder

Sketches

What is possible in drawing is limited only by your imagination. Drawing and observing the world often is a way to develop your imagination and skills to put it on paper.
Simply a pencil and a piece of paper are enough to endless learnig, imagination and fun!!

Sketch

I am working on a new book. I am exploring new directions for children's book illustrations, experimenting with distortions and perspectives. I work on this project in my spare hours, that I don't have much... progress will be slow, but it gives me the opportunity to put in some extras, that ofthen cannot be added because of deadlines, budgets or other restrictions....

Mijn naam is Haas

These are some sketches and illustrations that I have been working on lately. The project is called: Mijn naam is Haas" and it will consist of children's books and educational computer games. Trailers and full story can be found here

My name is Haas is a charming multimedia concept for young children (age 3-7 years). Picture books introduce characters like Haas, a young Hare, and Sofie, a little duck, and their world. Within the educational games children experience adventures together with the characters. These games are available on CD-ROM as well as online (in the near future). More info at mijnnaamishaas.nl

The book 'Nooit meer nat!' and the game 'Lekkere lucht' just came out, and are in store now!
'Groen Genoeg and 'Vreemde vogels' will both be published later...

SMURF!

I have had the honor to cooperate on a TV-commercial for Albert Heijn. Hollands biggest supermarket. The commercial is about the smurfs that you can get for free when you do your shopping at AH. It was my job to design the Harry character, and to paint all of the Backgrounds. I had a lot of fun doing this job, and also I learned a lot about animation, since it was my first animation project. The storyboard was done by the great Daan Jippes and the movie was directed by Hans Buying.

As you can see this is the evolution of the Harry character. I had to navigate between likeness and smurfness...

technique study

I am still deciding wether I'll use gouache or acrylics for the illustrations in my next book.
Since the story has a lot of different moods and different types of weather I may go for acrylics, which makes the flow of the paint, and looseness a lot easier.
Here's a quick sketch I made, trying to find an answer...
